Abstract
Introduction
Is co-operative action merely a logical way of ‘practicing economy’? Is it an effortless state of mind that makes us doubt about the crooked profit thinking that the economy has ended up? Does it offer an alternative to excessive profit orientation, which dominates large parts of the economy. If profit is not the main goal – What goal is pursued? Are these goals economic or social? Are cooperatives aiming at memberpromotion, at opening access to markets, at avoiding conflict between owners and users? Can co-operative philosophy, combined with a practical entrepreneurial spirit succeed in mobilizing people and organizations for a sustainable future?
